Frame & Build Details

Frame Design

The modular design of Apogee One means all three frame components are tuned perfectly to maximize the ride feel from front to rear.

The Free-Float Module provides a stiff foundation for suspension actuation while the swingarm and front triangle are tuned to provide trail hugging flex.

The strength and durability of steel allow us to shape it for optimal flex, providing excellent handling without feeling noodly. We decoupled the frame from the suspension to achieve the best of both; a tuned frame that carves and rides smoothly with a compact, advanced suspension system that remains supple yet avoids harsh stiffness.

  • Modular

The Apogee One's modular design ensures stiffness where needed and flexibility for tuning a buttery smooth ride feel.

  • Compact

The precision-machined Free Float Module (FFM) keeps pivots aligned for bearing longevity and small bump compliance that fits into a small package.

  • Tuned

The steel DuoFrame is strong and durable, allowing us to shape it for optimal flex, providing excellent handling without feeling noodly.

The FFM is a Beautifully, Precision-Machined Marvel

Our Free Float Module (FFM) brings the Apogee One’s suspension pivots into a compact, beautiful, precision-machined assembly that keeps the center of gravity low for that on-rails cornering feel. We use Enduro MAX bearings in every pivot to keep our corner-carving suspension running smooth for seasons to come.

  • Strength and Stiffness

Free from needing to control the ride feeling, the module is designed for strength and stiffness. This provides a solid foundation for the suspension components increasing the durability and keeps the core of the bike stiff to maintain control while riding.

  • Tight-Tolerance Assembly

Machining all of the suspension components out of 6061-T6 aluminum means we can hold tighter tolerances compared to a welded assembly. Tight tolerances keep the pivots aligned and creates that buttery-smooth Apogee feeling.

DuoFrame Design Makes for the Best Ride Quality

Decoupling the frame and suspension means we can tune the size and response of the front and rear triangles without affecting the suspension giving the Apogee One an unparalleled fit and a ride like no other steel mountain bike out there.

  • A Ride Like No Other

While cornering, it’s stiff enough for precise line choice and compliant to keep the tires glued to the ground. The carefully tuned anti-squat and stiff BB provide support to attack turns and climbs while pedaling. A responsive front triangle and progressive leverage ratio ensure the bike gets off the ground with ease and confidence.

  • Steel is the Feel

The strength and durability of steel gives us the flexibility of shapes we can use to tune flex in the frame to achieve a smooth ride feel.

  • Dropouts for the Future

Every Apogee One comes with precision-machined, modular, replaceable, and updatable dropouts based on the UDH standard. In the future, we plan to offer more dropout options to lengthen the chainstays or lower bottom bracket height.

  • Made in the USA

Every part of the Apogee One is sourced and made by our US-based team and suppliers. Frame and suspension kinematics design are all designed in-house. Each frame is hand welded in Seattle, WA. Every Free-Float Module is machined and assembled by hand in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

  • ISO Tested

In addition to over two years of research and development, the Apogee One design is backed by ISO 4120 testing for Falling Mass, Falling Frame, Horizontal Fatigue, Vertical Fatigue, BB Vertical Load, Tire Contact Fatigue, and Pedal Fatigue.
